Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa is searching for eight people to accompany him on the world’s first private commercial space flight. The “dearMoon” journey was first revealed in 2018 and is set to take off in 2023. Maezawa is funding the dearMoon project, which is a lunar tourism mission and art project. The passengers will be on Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starship and Super Heavy Rocket. According to Maezawa, the trip is all-expenses-paid, so those who take part will be able to travel for free. He stated that applicants must meet two criteria: one, to advance their chosen fields to benefit the greater society, and two, to assist other crew members in achieving similar aspirations.

Yusaku Maezawa is a Japanese billionaire mogul and art collector. In 2018, SpaceX, Elon Musk’s company, announced Maezawa as the first private passenger to be flown around the moon. The ticket’s cost has not been reported, but Musk said that it was “a substantial sum of money.” The dearMoon project will be the first human mission to the moon since 1972.
