Ashgabat is the capital of Turkmenistan and has about one million people. Last year’s priciest city was Hong Kong; it has now dropped to second place. Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, came in third and Tokyo came in fourth this year. The country of Turkmenistan has experienced various problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic but its president, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, promises to make Ashgabat one of the most successful cities in the world. The annual report is based on housing, transport, and food pricing. It was created to help companies worldwide find out how much they should pay expatriate employees. Shanghai and Beijing, two Chinese cities, also made it on the list. London in England ranked 18th. The capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, is the least expensive city on the list.
