Paris, the capital of France, is setting a 30 kilometer per hour (30km/h) speed limit on roads. The new limit aims to reduce pollution and improve traffic safety in Paris. The rule change took effect on August 30, 2021. Under the new law, leaders in Paris will also be removing 60,000 parking spaces on roads and install bike lanes. Based on the results of a poll by the Parisian City Hall, 61% of the city’s residents were against the new limit, and only 59% of them were in favor. A delivery driver described the rule as “crazy” and said that it was like riding on “electric scooters”. Parisian leader David Belliard, who is in charge of transport, hopes that the limit would encourage more people to walk and use bikes. The rule change was also made to reduce noise pollution, which caused stress on people.
