Jenny Best, a Brooklyn-based public relations consultant and former New York City Ballet ballerina, claims she couldn’t sleep because she had a brilliant idea. She intended to create a “Wikipedia of Baby Food,” an online resource that would walk parents through the process of helping their children eat solid foods.

Her plan was to create such a resource and make it freely available to anyone who wished to use it. Then see if she can transform it into a connected app and website where customers may pay to access a range of healthy baby food recipes. She didn’t have a business plan or investors. However, as she started sharing it with the world, she received a lot of immediate feedback from mothers.

She launched her app and website Solid Starts, which includes the free food database First Foods, on the eve of the global pandemic in March 2020. Solid Starts has a million Instagram followers by October 2021.
