The French capital will have its first aerial transport line by 2025. The “Cable 1” project will run from the Parisian suburb of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges to the Pointe du Lac station in Creteil in the Île-de-France region in a span of 17 minutes. A closer look at the design of the cable car system, by architecture company Atelier Schall has just been released. The cost of the new transportation system is estimated at €132 million (around $145 million) and is expected to serve around 11,000 people a day, with just 30 seconds between cabins during busy hours. Each cabin’s seating capacity is up to 10 passengers.
“The great proposal of the group led by Doppelmayr France will allow, in just over four years, more than 11,000 people per day to save a lot of time, a lot of comfort and perhaps, to dream a little in the mountains,” says Laurent Probst, general director for Île-de-France Mobilités. The Cable 1 project was first proposed in 2008 as part of a larger plan to ease commuting around various suburbs. Paris is not the only European city developing a cable car system. Last year, Amsterdam approved the 1.5 kilometer-long cable car system that will travel across the IJ river, connecting Amsterdam-West and Amsterdam-Noord in 2025.
