In honor of the 120th anniversary of Labor Day in the Philipines, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has organized job and business fairs in various locations on May 1, 2022. 12,000 local and international work opportunities are now available for job seekers. This year’s Labor Day tagline is Jobs 2022: Create, Sustain, Transform. In line with the Labor Day celebrations, DOLE has also opened the Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Hospital in San Fernando, Pampanga. All OFWs and their legal dependents will be treated in the 100-bed hospital facility for free, according to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III. Labor Day (Araw ng Manggagawa) was first celebrated in the Philippines on May 1, 1903, when thousands of workers gathered to ask the government for better employee rights. On April 8, 1908, the government made the first of May a national holiday. Also known as International Workers’ Day, Labor Day is celebrated in other countries on May 1 like Italy, France, and China.
