Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple will release an “Extreme Sports” watch this year. The new technology will have the company’s largest display, a bigger battery, and a metal casing. Gurman says that the screen view will be 1.9 inches diagonally. The Extreme Sports model will have 7 percent more screen area than the most expensive Apple Watch, with a display of 410 by 502 pixels. Gurman thinks that the larger screen could show more fitness metrics or watch faces. He also says that the wearable gadget will use a stronger metal than aluminum and a shatter-resistant screen. The technology should have a bigger battery so it can be used for longer workouts. When hiking, it will also be able to tell how high up you are.

As with the Apple Watch 8, the extreme sports model will measure body temperature to detect fevers. The aforementioned new gadget is to be announced later this year along with the Apple Watch Series 8 and an updated Apple Watch SE. The Apple Watch Series 8 will have a 1.9-inch diagonal screen, while the Apple Watch SE will have a 1.78-inch screen. An extreme sports Apple Watch could cost more than the $699 stainless steel model. Gurman says that all of the new Apple Watches will use the S8 processor. Apple usually releases new watches and iPhones in September.
