Russia launched its space satellite Arktika-M last Sunday, February 28, to watch over the climate and environment in the Arctic Ocean. Based on a tweet by Dmitry Rogozin of Russia’s Roscosmos space agency, the Soyuz rocket from Kazakhstan launched the satellite. Arktika-M will go above the highest northern height to check the Arctic and take pictures of the region every 15-30 minutes. The satellite is capable of sending warning signals from airplanes and ships as part of Cospas-Sarsat international satellite-based search and rescue program. In 2023, Russia plans to send a second satellite, and according to Roscosmos, the two spacecraft will monitor the Arctic Ocean without delay.
