Twitter’s privacy rules have been updated recently. It will now remove photos and videos of people posted on the application without their permission. Under the new rules, sharing other people’s private details like addresses, phone numbers, and others is not allowed. According to the company, the update will prevent bullying on social media. “Sharing personal media, such as images or videos, can potentially violate a person’s privacy, and may lead to emotional or physical harm,” Twitter said. Under the new process, a report from an allowed representative would be needed before deleting the image or video on Twitter. However, this does not apply in emergencies or when public interest is involved. The company added that it “will take into consideration whether the image is publicly available and/or is being covered by journalists — or if a particular image and the accompanying Tweet text adds value to the public discourse — is being shared in public interest or is relevant to the community.”
