After numerous years of separation, the reunion of the divided families from North and South Korea happened at the Mount Kumgang resort last August 20, 2018. 89 families from South Korea and 83 from North Korea took part in the reunion that was organized by the Korean Red Cross. Most of the attendees were elders who traveled by bus to North for the event. At the time of their reunion, the Koreans cradled each other while reliving the past years. This time, only seven families were reunited with their immediate families while others were rejoined to their close relatives.

The report showed that the reunion of the two was very emotional. Some divided families who were not chosen to attend the reunion can send letters or can have virtual reunions.
