Company away days are usually spent through team building, seminars or charity which are said to be stodgy and humiliating. Nowadays, cookery classes for companies are offered in some parts of Europe. Food@Work handled cooking classes of SIG, a hardware company based in London. SIG employees say that working in the kitchen loosened taut officers. Belguim-based Waffle Workshop originally targeted tourists but focused on companies instead because of perils that happened last year. Making waffles while knowing their colleagues more made attendees euphoric. France-based L’Atelier des Sens holds at least 150 team building cookery classes with 50 instructing chefs per month. L’Atelier des Sens observed that the organizational chart…

Edelman, an American public relations firm, surveyed 28 nations and regions featuring more exposure of corporate honchos to the common public. Japan garnered only 18% in the Trust Barometer survey which placed last on the list. Developed countries such as China and India ranked first in the said survey. Despite being a developed country, Japan expressed skepticism towards their corporate honchos. A study made by Deutsche Bank states that cutting prolonged working hours could affect Japanese economic growth. Demanding industries that depend on domestic demand are said to suffer the most. Cutting overtime might lead to lower household income and deplete corporate earnings which will greatly affect the economy. Deutsche Bank adds that Japanese employees usually render undocumented overtime which might be more than the documented data. Police findings state that work-related stress became one of the leading causes of deaths in 2015. Last October, the government released an extensive research about deaths by overwork which states that 12% of companies made their employees render more than 100 hours of…

Japan’s apparent aging and decreasing population is causing the greatest shortages of manpower for labor-intensive sectors. Industries like hotels, restaurants, and elderly care facilities are less capable of offering competitive wages as they hit lowest on productivity per employee. Also, the elderly care system is undermined by government efforts that set the compensation down. In 2015, the average monthly wages in Japan fell for the fourth consecutive year. The central bank’s target for the average monthly wage increase is 2% for 2016, but the labor ministry data records an increase of only 1% in September. Adding to this labor predicament is the sabotage of employees’ bargaining power due to the…
