The war between North and South Korea has officially come to an end after 65 years. Leaders Kim Jong-un and Moon Jae-in pledged to put an end to the hostilities in the region during the summit held in April. They met for the first time in over a decade and shook hands at the border or the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) which divided the country. Both of them also crossed to the opposite sides of the DMZ.

In line with their pledge is Kim Jong-un’s promise to denuclearize the Korean peninsula. No details were provided on what Kim expects in return for his commitment. These weapons are North Korea’s deterrent against the USA, whom Kim considers hostile. Nonetheless, both Moon and Kim expressed optimism regarding the upcoming meeting between Kim and US President Trump.
