President of World Athletics, Sebastian Coe, is concerned that the Tokyo Olympics might be in trouble if the coronavirus pandemic could not be managed by next year. The president of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe have confirmed that the events will not be hosted after the summer of 2021. While Japan’s President of the Medical Association, Yoshitake Yokokura, clarified in the previous month that it would be impossible to run the Olympics otherwise successful remedies would be discovered.

According to Coe, playing all the sports in a single season is “a headache”. He wishes the pandemic will be decreased, and that he would set aside the Olympic Games for the meantime, as he is sure what most medical personnel in governments are constantly trying to do to make a cure. He stated, “The ambition is to get the athletes back into competition as soon as we possibly can but only when it is safe to do so.”
