Scientists have found what is believed to be the oldest painting in the world in Indonesia. It is a picture of a wild pig that was painted at least 45,500 years ago. It was painted using dark red coloring and shows social activities among other warty pigs. Co-author of the study, Maxime Aubert, told the Science Advances journal in an interview that people during that time were already “modern“. They could already use tools to create paintings that they liked. The artwork gives proof that humans settled in the region, filling out blank spaces in archeological records. The researchers believe that there are more artworks waiting to be discovered on the island.
