International pop star Avril Lavigne officially debuted on TikTok last June 21, 2021. Lavigne posted a video of her singing along to her 2002 hit “Sk8er Boi” while dressed in time-appropriate attire. It got even more surprising when the real-life ‘Sk8er boi’ Tony Hawk appeared, doing skateboarding tricks. “I just posted my first TikTok with the legendary Tony Hawk… go check it out!” Lavigne wrote in the caption.

The video emerged simultaneously on Lavigne’s and Hawk’s respective TikTok pages for Go Skateboarding Day, an annual promotional event organized by the International Association of Skateboard Companies. In the “Sk8er Boi” ditto, the 36-year-old singer rocks street clothes– black-on-black outfit, Chuck Taylor Converse, and a muscle t-shirt–similar to those she would have worn several years ago. Draping around Lavigne’s neck is a signature loose necktie, which is also used in transitioning from her lip-syncing musical throwback to 53-year-old Hawk’s celebratory skating cameo.

“Sk8er Boi” was the second single from Lavigne’s first album released in 2002, “Let Go”, which is now multi-platinum in the United States and certified diamond in Canada, the singer’s native. The song followed her introductory single, “Complicated,” which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Top. Fans of Lavigne were ecstatic watching the video. Most of them say the pop-punk princess’ e-girl aesthetic has not changed. Lavigne also posted photos of her and Hawk on Instagram to promote her new TikTok account, which already has over 1 million followers, with her first TikTok video garnering million views and likes.
