Google announced a redesign of Google Maps on Thursday, March 12, 2026. The update adds artificial intelligence tools to help people find places and travel more easily. Google Maps is used by more than two billion people around the world. The system uses Google’s AI technology called Gemini. The technology studies information from more than 300 million places and reviews from over 500 million contributors. This information has been collected since the service started more than twenty years ago. The large amount of data helps the system give better directions and location information.

The redesign includes two tools that support navigation. A feature called Ask Maps gives suggestions such as nearby charging stations, restaurants, and travel routes for road trips with several stops. Another feature called Immersive Navigation shows three-dimensional views of roads, buildings, and landmarks. These views help drivers understand surroundings more clearly. The system can also compare routes and suggest parking places near destinations. Experts say safeguards were created to reduce incorrect information produced by artificial intelligence.
