Philip Morris International, a cigarette company, is planning to stop selling its products in the United Kingdom (UK) within 10 years. The announcement came after the number of cigarette smokers in Britain has decreased and the UK government’s goal to become a smoke-free nation. “Philip Morris can see a world without cigarettes – the sooner it happens, the better it is for everyone,” the company’s CEO Jacek Olczak said in an interview. Earlier this month, the company spent £1bn to buy Vectura, a British medicine company. Health organizations are questioning the plans of the company. They said it was hard to take Philip Morris plans seriously as they are responsible for selling over a tenth of cigarettes across the world. Smoking kills more than 8 million people a year, based on the World Health Organization (WHO).
