According to an architect, the Victorian bridge in Sheffield could be turned into a beautiful green space to help attract families to the area. Matt Bowker of Coda Studios expressed interest in turning Kelham Island’s Ball Street Bridge into a park. Since the pandemic, the bridge has been closed to traffic and has become a gathering spot for visitors to enjoy the river and animals, he said. Sheffield City Council liked the concept. Mr. Bowker, whose office is nearby, says that despite the abundance of apartments, pubs, and restaurants, there is a little outdoor area for families. He believes that changing the bridge and installing permanent benches and planters may transform it into a gathering spot for residents and events. A representative for Sheffield City Council stated that the city is proud of its image as the “Outdoor City,” and that increasing green space is a vital aspect of the city’s development.
